Building Self-Esteem with Gratitude

Self esteem can be defined as “confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect.” We experienced the growth of self esteem by way of maintaining positive perspectives, practicing gratitude and connecting with others.

We wrote this song & video to provide kids with an upbeat and fun reminder that we have so much to be grateful for and in turn, we can feel “alright”. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and let down in today’s world. There’s so much uncertainty and obstacles to overcome, it takes effort to maintain a positive outlook.

Sometimes gratitude doesn’t come easy. We want to send gratitude to those around us so that in turn, together we can grow a community that is hopeful and thoughtful.

This feeling of gratitude and connection grows self esteem and confidence. It’s common to grow confidence and self-esteem by way of winning competitions, dominating in athletic achievements and getting good grades.

It’s a wonderful aspect of developing self-esteem, however, there are down sides to this type of confidence and self-esteem. It is only reserved for those that are able to perform at a high standard, leaving those that aren’t able to match in abilities, to develop low self-esteem and confidence and sometimes an insatiable drive to be the best.

We are excited about another way to grow confidence and self-esteem! There is also a feeling of confidence that grows when we are grateful for family, friends, community and nature. Your own worth and self-respect comes from your ability to connect with the world around you.

It’s a feeling that’s available to everyone that is open to practicing gratitude and mindfulness. There are no losers, there’s room for everyone. We don’t all get trophies, because there’s no need for them. The true performance is in mutual appreciation, respect and connection.
